New Survey Shows Continued Opposition to Regulation of Internet

A new national survey by Hart Research Associates finds substantial opposition to government Internet regulation, with 75 percent of respondents saying the Internet is working well and 55 percent saying the federal government should not regulate the Internet at all.

More from the survey: “When asked if the federal government should regulate the Internet, 57 percent responded ‘no.’ Of the 31 percent who thought the federal government should regulate the Internet, more than two-thirds said any such regulation should be focused on privacy, online safety and protecting children.”

The Hispanic Technology and Telecommunications Partnership (HTTP), is pleased to announce the appointment of Jason Llorenz, Esq. as Executive Director. Prior to assuming this role with HTTP, Mr. Llorenz served as Senior Policy Advisor to the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators, where he directed the development of the Broadband En Accion Taskforce – a cadre of Hispanic state legislators from across the country working to identify and promote policy solutions to close the digital divide and realize full broadband adoption for Latino communities.

The Pew Hispanic Center has found that technology use among foreign-born Latinos continues to lag significantly behind that of their U.S.-born counterparts.  Their report, The Latino Digital Divide: The Native Born versus The Foreign Born, shows that the nativity differences are especially pronounced when it comes to internet use. While 85% of native-born Latinos ages 16 and older go online, only about half (51%) of foreign-born Latinos do so. When it comes to cell phones, 80% of native-born Latinos use one, compared with 72% of the foreign born.
